A Big Dream in a Small Arena—From 11 Million to 50 Million: Kailangde Power’s Path to Technological Breakthrough
On March 25, inside the factory of Guizhou Kailangde Power Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Kailangde Power”), located within the fenced area of the Guiyang Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the sound of machinery was booming. More than 40 workers were busily producing a power equipment called “busbar trunking”—a product that may seem niche but is actually the “lifeline” of high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, and industrial plants, playing a crucial role in power transmission.
“I firmly believe that Guizhou can also produce busbar trunking systems whose quality rivals that of top-tier international products!”
On March 25, inside the factory of Guizhou Kailangde Power Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Kailangde Power”), located within the fenced area of the Guiyang Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the sound of machinery was booming. More than 40 workers were busily producing a power equipment called “busbar trunking”—a product that may seem niche but serves as the “lifeline” of high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, and industrial plants, playing a critical role in power transmission.
General Manager Tang Zhengkuan stood beside the production line, pointing to a “fire-resistant busbar” that gleamed with a metallic sheen. With a firm tone, he said, “This ‘blood vessel’ will one day be delivering vital energy to China’s high-end manufacturing!”
In October 2021, Tang Zhengkuan rented a ground-floor residential unit and, together with several workers, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey. “In the early stages of our business, funds were tight, and we had to scavenge for much of our equipment—picking up ‘secondhand’ items,” he recalled. At that time, the issue of obtaining production qualifications for the residential property nearly brought the company to a standstill. A turning point came in April 2024, when Kailangde Power moved into the Guiyang Comprehensive Bonded Zone. With the government’s dedicated team providing “one-on-one” support, the company achieved production within just three months and completed its formal registration within six months. That same year, its output value exceeded 26 million yuan—more than double the 11 million yuan recorded in 2022.
“There’s no ‘wait-and-see’ mentality here—only ‘act now’!” Tang Zhengkuan remarked with deep emotion. The Guiyang Comprehensive Bonded Zone not only provides standardized factory buildings but also acts as a “super matchmaker,” connecting enterprises within Guizhou Province that have potential demand; helping companies get listed on the Guiyang Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology’s “Industrial Products Promotion Catalog”; facilitating joint industry-academia-research bases with Guizhou University and Guizhou University of Science and Technology; and even accompanying enterprises on project visits and market expansion efforts, armed with product brochures.
Currently, Kailangde’s electrical products have been sold to Sichuan, Yunnan, Xinjiang, and other regions. The company is involved in the construction of key projects such as Guiyang Metro Line 3, Geely Auto Industrial Park, and Tianfu Chemical Industry. Its business covers the entire value chain—from R&D and production of high-end busbar trunking systems to sales and technical consulting—and it is the most fully-qualified and largest-capacity busbar trunking enterprise in Guizhou Province. Based on current order signings, this year’s output is expected to double, and the company’s output value will exceed 50 million yuan.
As Guizhou’s industrialization accelerates, the annual market demand for busbar trunking systems within the province has reached as high as 10 billion yuan. Yet local enterprises account for less than 5% of the market share. “The vast majority of the market has been captured by companies from outside the province, and fierce price competition is squeezing the survival space of local businesses.” Faced with these challenges, Tang Zhengkuan has chosen a “two-pronged approach”: first, investing 10% of annual output value each year in R&D to enhance the company’s independent innovation capabilities; second, partnering with Guizhou University and Guizhou University of Science and Technology to establish a industry-academia-research base, focusing on cultivating top-notch talent for the industry.
“Guizhou Comprehensive Bonded Zone helps enterprises find policies, funding, and markets—so all enterprises need to do is focus on perfecting their products. There’s simply no reason why we can’t succeed,” Tang Zhengkuan admitted frankly. In high-demand environments such as data centers and hydropower stations, customers often opt for established international brands like Siemens and Schneider, while domestic companies are typically limited to taking on low-value-added installation and maintenance services.
“Moving from following to leading is an inevitable path. During installation, we closely observe and learn from the strengths of foreign products, continuously optimizing our technology and enhancing our offerings, striving to become an ‘invisible champion’ in this niche market,” said Tang Zhengkuan. Currently, the company has applied for four invention patents and 13 utility model patents. Its flagship product, the “fire-resistant busbar,” can ensure power supply for three hours even under temperatures as high as 1,000°C, at just one-third the price of similar foreign products. Meanwhile, the “waterproof busbar” retains excellent conductivity even when submerged in water, making it ideal for applications in coastal regions and hydroelectric power stations.
“We’re making high-end busbar trunking systems bid farewell to ‘sky-high prices’ through the development of new materials and upgrades to our manufacturing processes!” Tang Zhengkuan revealed that Kailend Electric is currently leveraging the favorable conditions provided by the Guiyang Comprehensive Bonded Zone—such as bonded warehousing and China-Europe freight train logistics—to aggressively expand into overseas markets, including Southeast Asia. “In the future, we’ll use our strong technological capabilities to help ‘Made in Guizhou’ busbar trunking systems secure a place in the global supply chain.”
